6 cranes by default
The game starts with 4 cranes, which is really not a lot considering early buildings have 3 inputs (2 modules & core).
It feels very slow to be limited at 4.

I see the point of it being quite slow in the beginning but I don’t think that’s too much of a problem.
Especially the first island is very large. Even using every single polyrock node I still hade a lot of space left, so personally I don’t think more buildings would be a problem.
I do agree though that it doesn’t feel as rewarding when you complete everything but have to wait 3 minutes for production to start.
Maybe you could lower the building cost though. That way you could solve that problem for the early buildings until you unlock more cranes -

TrichouetteA tech?
We already have upgrades in the tech tree to increase the number of cranes we can place on a building, but waiting so long just to go from 4 to 6 is really boring in my opinion. -

ghostyI would maybe even consider starting on 3.
As said in the original post 4 is an odd number for the early buildings and you can only use 3 anyways.
I think you do need 4 cranes for the basic bots (correct me if I’m wrong), so you’d likely need it before reaching lvl 2, but I don’t think you need it for data shards. That way you could make 4 cranes per building already unlockable in the tree by lvl 1.
It would kind of force you to build data shards before basic bots and idk if that’s a direction you’d want to go in, but it would make it a little smoother with the numbers of cranes you can add to buildings. -

TrichouetteI don't think making the early game even slower is a good idea...
The first building (core) requires 2 inputs, the second & third (bot & processor) require 3.
I think going for 6 by default is better.
Little reminder, cranes work at 15/min, which is incredibly slow, and conveyor belts work at 60/min. -

The first building (cores) requires 2 input, one of which is twice the other
So with 3 cranes you should be fine
then you have the second (bots) & third (processor) buildings that have 3 inputs, with identical quantities
So again, with 3 cranes you are fine
But the thing is, you need 48/32 modules per input just to build it, and then 6/8 modules/cores to fill those buildings
That means 2/3 minutes to build a building, but you only do that once
In theory everything works, but in practice it feels very slow.
I should probably place down MORE buildings, that would fix the issues, but then that means a lot more harvester pads
All of this take quite some place 🤔
I cannot figure out why the game feels so slow to me, because in theory it's fine
(I also feel like I need a ridiculous amount of polyrock to do anything lol) -

dsyI also find it strange that you start with 4 cranes, as all the buildings I have seen so far require 3 inputs.

TrixxitFor me personally, four cranes are enough to start with. The moment I needed or wanted more, I could unlock them in the tech tree.

DrydeMaybe adding a "differential speed" on the crane itself to match the production rate on the belt , I mean if we have overflow splitter it could make sense to have such an available upgrade right ?

TrainsnekI think the cranes are good enough, you can unlock more early enough, and it's nice to have a restriction

TrichouetteTo wrap up on my suggestion, I think
- 3 is fine, because the first 3 buildings work well with that, but it's very slow and means you need a lot of buildings
- 4 is an odd number that doesn't really fit anywhere
- 6 is a nice number that can be divided by 3 and 2, and it feels much better than 3 to play with.
I also think "it doesn't take long to unlock the tech 4 -> 6 cranes" is simply not true (although subjective)
It took me 45 minutes to do that, which I think is a lot to obtain such a HUGE quality of life improvement. -

David PrinsmelHey David (dev) here. Here's what's been implemented now:
- You start the game with 3 cranes. That is enough to optimally feed in modules to the Basic Core Facility, Basic Bot Assembly and Basic Processing Plant
- In the tech tree, the first crane amount unlock is 6, then 8, 10, 12, 14, ...
- With 6 you can basically double your crane amount and still have a perfect ratio (but your building is twice as fast)
I think in the early game, you should optimize by placing down more buildings. If this is not your play style, one could focus directly on acquiring the crane amount upgrades. The first upgrades 6, 8, 10 should be fairly easy to acquire. -

David PrinsmelAlso note that we've heard your feedback and made those first nodes a bit cheaper
